PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS MEET AT THE EDUCATIONAL CENTER PRO DIDACTICA TO UPDATE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR PEACE EDUCATION THROUGH THE CULTURE OF GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD

On 25 August 2017, over 30 teachers from 17 educational institutions from different localities of the country participated for the fourth consecutive year in a training program for the professional empowerment to teach the new optional discipline “The Culture of Good Neighborhood”, in fourth grade. The seminar took place within the project “Educating Culture of Peace trough Good Neighborhood in Primary School”, implemented throughout the Republic of Moldova, including the Transnistrian region, with the financial support of the international network for peacebuilding – GPPAC (The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflicts) www.gppac.net.

The objectives of the activity include: familiarizing teachers with curriculum specifics to the optional subject “The Culture of Good Neighborhood” in the fourth grade with the title “My Country- my pride”; analytic and interactive scrutiny of curricular contents; designing the didactic approach for the 4th grade in specific intercultural contexts; debating the imperatives of peace education in the current Moldovan educational environment, as well as facilitating an exchange of experience on the rigors of piloting curricular contents and related interactive methodology.

The curriculum of this subject is structured on the following modules: Geographical Environment; History; Traditional and contemporary culture; The neighbor’s language; Axiology and Conflictology and proposes the development of a coherent set of specific competences, such as: Forming a responsible and respectful attitude towards the locality, the native country as a fundamental element of the patriotic education; Enhancing the social competence and responsibility of young people for the well-being of their country, necessary components of civic sense; Developing skills for dialogue and negotiation, dispute resolution and conflict situations, in accordance with democratic principles and principles of peace culture; Showing a lasting interest in the history, culture, life and problems of the country; Forming a constructive attitude towards the development and optimization of the situation in the country; Active involvement in forming a personal position and the ability to generate new constructive ideas. Students and teachers received the workbook on intercultural education  “The Culture of Good Neighborhood”, with the title My Country – my pride, in Romanian and Russian languages, which includes the following thematic area: My Country and the whole World. Peace and harmony; Attitude towards the world, country and cultures of Moldova; Values of the good neighborhood; We and the others: communicate, friendship, collaborate; The miracles of nature. To protect them; Excerpts from the “Red Book”; Monuments and nature reserves; To know the architectural monuments; Historical events that represent us; Voivodes and leaders who glorified our country; Our religious leaders; Writers and composers from Moldova; Means of communication: past and present; Scenery items  and ornaments of different ethnicities; Crafts of Moldovan natives; Dolls and puppet theater; Our hospitality. Tourism development; We welcome guests in their language; We are hospitable hosts!; Our traditional dishes; Souvenirs; We present the country to the foreigners. We expect a sustainble impact of the project activities, shown by peaceful and civilized behavior of children, teachers and parents in their communities, but also by using functional knowledges for constructive and peacebuilding interaction and good understanding in any other contexts.
