PRE-UNIVERSITY TEACHERS CONTINUE EDUCATION FOR THE INTEGRITY OF STUDENTS AND PARENTS

On March 22, the second seminar of pre-university teachers dedicated to the education for integrity and the eradication of corruption acts will took place. The activity takes place within the framework of the Moldovan-Lithuanian project, financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania with funding from the Program for Cooperation for Development and Promotion of Democracy. The duration of the project was one year, ending in April 2019 and addressed to students aged 15-18 who study socio-humanistic subjects, including Civic Education and/or the optional subject “European Integration for You”. This initiative supports activities to prevent and eradicate corruption in the state by educating conscientious, critical and responsible citizens, aiming to develop and implement anti-corruption education in secondary education.

The objectives of the project include: elaboration of the Anticorruption Education module and its testing/piloting with the teachers; the development of teaching materials for pupils and the development of promotion channels and of the internal support network in this respect.

The developed materials complement the recommended contents of the existing curriculum, the user being provided with didactic projects, informational support and good practices from the schools involved, in the digital version at the following link https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1oj2PwRGliQ83osoMP8Hdy-yz63y0IE9f. The project promotes education for integrity at state-level, thus helping the National Anticorruption Center implement its action plan to eradicate the corruption phenomenon.

During the seminar, the exchange of experience between teachers was facilitated through the presentation of good practices in schools, as well as the initiative to sign a Declaration of Integrity by the management team of the institution, which provides involvement in obtaining the honorary title of Honest School. Also, there was discussed the new materials for teachers and parents, but also for pupils, for the following subjects: Romanian and Universal History, Civic Education, Romanian Language and Literature, Universal Literature, Personal Development, Education for Society, I read therefore I am, as well as extracurricular activities. The expert authors Rodica EŞANU and Eugenia NEGRU have creatively proposed a detailed didactical support with the topics: Corruption makes us poorer; Political corruption steals the vote of the citizen; When can the law be a fertile environment for corruption? About honesty; The story of a consciousness (social theater); The traces of our footsteps; Character is what we do when nobody sees us;”Fabula” – community educator, etc.

At the end of the project, other good practices will be collected and disseminated in order to assist teachers and managers, that integrity education becomes an element of the school’s organizational culture within the national Honest Schools network, but also a recognized social practice assumed by most citizens.

PRO DIDACTICA – 20: KICK-OFF MEETING ON LAUNCHING OF THE PROJECT ”PROMOTING AND DEVELOPING INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION (ICE) FOR PRE-SERVICE TEACHER TRAINING”

On June 27, 2018, at the Educational Center PRO DIDACTICA held an important event dedicated to launching the project Promoting and developing intercultural education (ICE) for pre-service teacher training, which will be implemented from June 2018 to December 2020, with the financial support of the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation, Switzerland.

This event was attended by university managers and teachers from 3 pedagogical universities (Moldova State University, Alecu Russo State University of Balti, Comrat State University), representative of the National Youth Council of Moldova, Mrs. Galina Petcu and trainers of the center.

The goal of the project is to improve future teachers’ knowledge and skills in order to support the development of intercultural competence of children and youth. The specific objectives include: to develop the curriculum and didactic materials on intercultural education in pre-service teacher training; to develop the professional skills of university teachers in intercultural education.

Expert Mrs. Viorica Goraş-Postica presented a detailed retrospective of the Center’s projects in those 20 years of activity, including intercultural education, emphasizing the contribution of development partners and the associative sector to promoting tolerance and accepting diversity as a personal development factor, institutional and social. Another expert, Mrs. Tatiana Cartaleanu, referred to successful educational experiences at different levels of education from the new multicultural contexts of our country, insisting on the reasons for which each of us will benefit from this project, including by taking advantage of the opportunities of the new learning community, which will create new successful practices of research, teaching, learning and evaluation. The participants expressed their gratitude for “the opportunity to collaborate, for the challenge to enhance the effectiveness of the university education process, the project aimed directly at the development of the future teachers’ professional competences” (Maria Ianioglo, the Comrat State University).

The expected impact of the project will contribute to implementation of ICE within the university curriculum and in a long-term perspective to increasing the level of tolerance and non-discrimination among children and youth belonging to different ethnic, religious, linguistic and sexual minorities.

WE ANNOUNCE THE START OF THE PROJECT ”EUROPEAN LESSONS 2: COMPONENT ANTI-CORRUPTION EDUCATION”

Recently, the Education Centre PRO DIDACTICA hosted the visit of the Lithuanian expert DAIVA PENKAUSKIENE, the director of the Centre for Modern Didactics in Vilnius, on the occasion of launching a new Moldovan-Lithuanian project, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania from the Co-operation Program for the Development and Promotion of Democracy. The duration of the project will be one year until April 2019, addressing pupils aged between 15 and 18 years who study Civic Education and / or optional discipline “European Integration for You”. This initiative promotes activities to prevent and eradicate corruption in the state by educating conscientious, critical and responsible citizens, by implementing anti-corruption education in secondary education.

The objectives of the project include: To develop anticorruption education module and test it with teachers, implementing course “Education for EU integration“; To develop learning materials for students; To develop dissemination channels and in-country support network in this respect. The target groups of our intervention will be school teachers of the “European Integration for You” course and the students involved; as direct beneficiaries will be the AO EC PRO DIDACTICA and the educational community in Moldova, and as indirect beneficiaries – other NGOs and state institutions responsible for preventing corruption, etc.

This module will complement the school curriculum “European integration for you” as well as the curriculum of Civic Education and guidance, and will be made available to users in digital format. The module will support the implementation of anti-corruption activities at state level, thus helping the National Anticorruption Center to implement its action plan on eradicating the anti-corruption phenomenon. During the visit, the Lithuanian expert met the project team, the project experts Eugenia NEGRU and Rodica ESANU, who debated the concept and the expected results of the project, with an emphasis on promoting good practices inspired by the Baltic countries. Also, two educational institutions from the capital were visited, who will be involved in the future project: TL “Prometheu-Prim” and TL “Aristotel”. The guest was impressed by the interest and the openness of the teaching staff and of the administration and by the motivation of the pupils for studying and applying good practices for the uprooting of the corruption phenomenon at various levels.

We concluded on the importance of this investment in human resources and in the development of teaching materials that will remain in the system and will perpetuate the impact of successful experiences that will contribute to building a democratic society, governed transparently, with involved and honest citizens.

Finally, we invite teachers interested in this issue who will teach in the next school year, the  optional course “European Integration for you” in high school, send a motivation letter (within a standard A4 page) for involvement in the project, until July 20, at: vpostica@prodidactica.md. They will benefit from a training program (at the end of August this year) at EC PRO DIDACTICA, from teaching materials and by the status of teacher-experimenter during one semester – all confirmed by an authorized certificate.
