For the participants, the micro-qualification programme \u2018Making and Repairing Clothing\u2019 was not just a course. By taking up a new trade \u2013 that of a seamstress \u2013 some of them found a job, whilst others acquired skills that changed the rhythm of their lives, helping them to organise their free time in a more enjoyable and productive way, for their own benefit and that of their loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iana is 42 years old. She has been in Moldova for four years, having been part of the first waves of refugees from Ukraine. A few months ago, she enrolled on the \u2018Clothing Manufacture and Repair\u2019 programme, run at the Vocational School in \u0218tefan Vod\u0103. \u201cIt was a very interesting and useful experience,\u201d she says. \u201cThrough the programme, I developed my sewing skills and learnt lots of new things. I also got to know the other participants and made friends with them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As she delved deeper into the craft, using the materials and equipment donated by the project, Iana began mending the clothes of her family members and close friends. Then, as she became increasingly proficient in the art of tailoring and fashion design, she bought a sewing machine and began making her own clothes. \u201cNow, I mend my family\u2019s clothes, saving the money I would otherwise have spent on these services. What\u2019s more, I\u2019ve started making new items,\u201d Iana says proudly. \u201cIt\u2019s something I really enjoy doing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking part in the partial vocational training programme has helped Iana become more independent and determined. \u201cI never thought I\u2019d have my own sewing machine or that I\u2019d start working in this field. For me, this programme was an important step towards greater independence and confidence in my own abilities. I\u2019m really glad I had the opportunity and that I chose to take part in it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iana\u2019s example, a testament to the desire to overcome adversity and surpass one\u2019s own limitations, is not unique. It forms part of a series of outcomes that once again confirm the value of the micro-qualification programmes launched by the \u2018Initiative to Support Refugees\u2019\u2019 project: that of providing new qualifications and bringing about positive change in people\u2019s lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u2018Initiative to Support Refugees\u2019 project is being implemented by the PRO DIDACTICA Educational Centre, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), as part of the Humanitarian Response in the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
