
The T4GREEN project (“Transforming Teacher Education for Green and Digital Transition in Armenia and Moldova”) aims to reform teacher education in Armenia and Moldova by enabling a shift from traditional to future-oriented curricula and teaching methods in support of achieving national general education goals and facilitating the green and digital transition.

Background and general objective: During the recent years Armenia and Moldova are facing a huge challenge in the field of teacher education conditioned by a big gap between 21st century student needs and the rigid and traditional teaching in both countries as well as teacher shortage especially in rural areas and STEM subjects. To align the curriculum and teaching methodology to the 21st century needs and to address teacher shortage Governments of both countries have undertaken reforms directed towards student-centred and digital teaching and learning.
Consequently, the project aims at reforming teacher education in Armenia and Moldova enabling the shift from traditional to future-oriented curricula and teaching methods towards attainment of the national goals of general education and supporting green and digital transition. The project activities will meet goals of the Green Deal and Digital transformation of the Call by developing future-oriented curricula that will better meet the needs of learners, develop competences in various sustainability relevant sectors as well as ensure the transition of towards digitalization of teaching and learning methods, develop digital skills to make the digital transformation as comprehensive and inclusive as possible in line with the general goals of the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027. As a result of project implementation, the challenge with teacher shortage in both countries will also be addressed by increasing the attractiveness of the teacher career through introduction of more up to date and attractive programs and by transforming the role of teacher in society. The issue that needs to be addressed critically soon in order reform agendas can advocate for teacher education to have positive effects on teacher quality, students’ learning, and public education in and for a democratic society.
Project summary: The T4GREEN project aims at reforming teacher education in Armenia and Moldova enabling the shift from traditional to future-oriented curricula and teaching methods towards attainment of the national goals of general education and supporting green and digital transition. This intervention is justified taking into account the dramatic situation in Armenia and Moldova with teacher shortage, lack of interest towards career of teacher, the transformation of the role of a teacher in modern society and the non-attractiveness of school program for learners in general conditioned by the out-of-date methodology and curricula.
Specific objectives:
- Capacity building of national and institutional administrators, decision makers, lecturers and researchers to transform teacher education policy and programs towards attainment of the national goals of general education, green and digital transition.
- Development of “National Concept for Teacher Education (NCTE)” promoting the shift from traditional to future, green and digital oriented teacher training curricula and methods.
- Development of benchmarks for different level teacher initial education and revision of bachelor, master, as well as short credit program.
- Revision of teacher initial education program in Bachelor, Master, as well as short credit program levels. As an outcome, develop 12 initial teacher education programs: 5 bachelor’s, 5 master’s, and 2 short credit-bearing programs (both existing and newly developed) in the areas of STEM, foreign languages, special and inclusive education, as well as revised general pedagogy courses. Standards related to the green and digital transition will be reviewed in 5 universities in Armenia and Moldova.
As a result of project implementation:
- 12 selected teacher initial education programs in Bachelor (5), Master (5), and 2 short credit programs (existing and newly developed) for STEM, foreign language, and special and inclusive education, as well as general pedagogy courses based on the functioning standards will be revised at 5 universities in Armenia and Moldova regarding green and digital transition.
- “National Concept for Teacher Education (NCTE)2027-2035” for promoting the shift from traditional to future, green and digital oriented teacher training curricula and methods will be developed that will put effort to modernize teacher education at national levels promoting the shift from traditional to future, green and digital oriented teacher training curricula and methods.
- Capacities of national and institutional administrators, decision makers, lecturers and researchers will be built to transform teacher education policy and programs towards attainment of the national goals of general education, green and digital transition
The project outcomes will have a tremendous impact on teacher education in Armenia and Moldova having domino-like effect and influencing the quality of teaching and learning in schools for future generations.
