With the support of the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation, the Digital Hub in Chișinău brought together 49 children and 63 four-legged friends for the “Hand in Paw” festival. The event was attended by 32 children from Chișinău and 17 from Ukraine, who introduced their pets and shared touching stories about their adoption, as well as the unique bond and loyalty that bring them closer.

The event was organized under the auspices of the extracurricular program “Intercultural Education, Peaceful Coexistence, Sports, and Recreation” implemented by Digital Hub, aligning specific objectives toward a common goal: to facilitate dialogue and social cohesion between children from the refugee community and those from the host community. This demonstrated that caring for animals is a language capable of building trust among children from diverse cultural backgrounds. Sharing stories about the little creatures and practices of responsible care broke down communication barriers, and the empathetic setting fostered a warm and respectful dialogue. Through the games and contests held, the interaction became an experience of unity, offering children the opportunity to build lasting friendships.

The project “Empowering Refugee Girls and Boys from Ukraine through Inclusive and Empathetic Education in the Republic of Moldova” is implemented by the PRO DIDACTICA Educational Center, with support from the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation (Switzerland).

The four “Safe Spaces for Girls and Women” continue to change lives through economic empowerment initiatives. Their members – adolescent girls, young women, and women among refugees from Ukraine and host communities in the Republic of Moldova – are learning to use the sewing machines provided through the project, developing skills that can serve as the foundation for sustainable independence. For many of the participants, mastering the art of tailoring paves the way toward integration into the labor market.

Under the guidance of facilitators, they have learned to create finished products: eco-friendly bags, aprons, and cosmetic pouches, as well as decorative pillows. During practical sessions, special emphasis is placed on skills essential for daily life. Thus, the participants have learned techniques for repairing and altering clothes, which allows them to maintain their own wardrobes on their own, thereby saving money in the family budget.

The impact of these activities goes beyond the goal of equipping them with skills for independent living: interaction within the “Safe Spaces” community strengthens their self-confidence and provides the moral support needed to cope with the challenges they face, offering them a protective environment where they can grow together.

The Refugee Support Initiative project is being implemented by the PRO DIDACTICA Educational Center, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), as part of the Humanitarian Response in the Republic of Moldova.

Centrele comunitare de educație online (Digital Hub) din Chișinău, Cimișlia, Criuleni, Dondușeni, Comrat, Vulcănești și Ceadâr-Lunga, localități beneficiare ale proiectului ”Împuternicirea fetelor și băieților refugiați din Ucraina printr-o educație incluzivă și empatică în Republica Moldova”, au început activitățile cu copiii – refugiați ucraineni și membri ai comunităților gazdă.

Ofertele educaționale sunt structurate în 3 componente:

• Cursuri de limba română, care vin să sprijine integrarea beneficiarilor în sistemul național de învățământ, precum și să faciliteze participarea lor la acțiunile comunitare. Acestea sunt organizate atât pentru copiii refugiați care învață online, cât și pentru cei înscriși în școlile din Republica Moldova.
• Activități extracurriculare, care își propun să susțină interacțiunea, socializarea, colaborarea, învățarea interculturală și acceptarea diversității, consolidarea încrederii în sine în rândul băieților și fetelor din ambele țări, inclusiv prin implementarea programului ”Educație interculturală și viață pașnică”. Acest compartiment include, de asemenea, activități sportive și recreative.
• Suport psihosocial și psihopedagogic, care are scopul de a le dezvolta copiilor reziliența, pentru a face față dificultăților de învățare, provocărilor și schimbărilor legate de mutarea cu traiul într-un loc nou sau de înscrierea într-o școală nouă, traumelor, stresului, inclusiv prin îngrijire adaptată în cazul fetelor și băieților afectați de violență bazată pe gen. Activitățile sunt realizate de psihologi, în grup sau individual și îi vor ajuta pe beneficiari să se adapteze la noile condiții de viață și de învățare.

Orarul Digital Hub-urilor este adaptat la programul beneficiarilor, iar algoritmul de desfășurare a activităților ține cont de vârsta și de nevoile fiecăruia dintre ei.

Pedagogii și psihologii care activează în centrele comunicare de învățare online au fost pregătiți în cadrul unui program de formare oferit de proiect.

Proiectul ”Împuternicirea fetelor și băieților refugiați din Ucraina printr-o educație incluzivă și empatică în Republica Moldova” este implementat de Centrul Educațional PRO DIDACTICA, cu sprijinul financiar al Fundației pentru Copii ”Pestalozzi” din Elveția.
